I have heard some rumors and read some reports, recently, that the Isle of Patmos, where John supposedly wrote down the book of Revelations, is covered in the kind of mushrooms you take when you go to a Disco Biscuits concert… can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

Sounds like a lot of specific speculation about extremely unclear historical events and people. While I don’t buy the stories in Revelation or the rest of the Bible for that matter, this kind of reporting reeks of agenda to me.
Bottom like to me is that mythology without a clear historical record and having been exposed to near endless politics, translation, interpretation, embellishment, whisper-down-the-lane, etc. will end up saying a combination of whatever people want it to say and some really strange mangled ideas, and we don’t need mushrooms to explain that.
If the place was covered in mushrooms, there’s probably evidence of lots of other people tripping there, and nobody would take anything John wrote seriously. I just don’t get to the point where I try to discredit John as a witness… he’s too unsubstantiated to argue with.
